The man who has built up a reputation which causes any player to fear being drawn against him in the first round, has struck again. This time at the US Open 2018, it is Denmark’s Jan O Jorgensen who has felt the consequences.
Jorgensen seemed to be back to almost his best after a Men’s Singles semi-final run at the European Championships. However, the number 3 seed from France, who had lost to Jorgensen in straight games on the last 3 occasions, and also has just recovered from a shoulder operation, was definitely in the mood today. Leverdez played a decisive match and is through to the next round with a 21-16,21-16 victory. He will now face Heo Kwang Hee of South Korea.
An upset already
In other matches, the one that stood out the most was the Thai Men’s Doubles number 3 seeds, Tinn Isriyanet and Kittisak Namdash who came up against a defiant English pair in Sean Vendy and Ben Lane. The flying high Thailand Masters champions were brought back to earth with a 23-21, 21-14 loss.
In addition, the European seeds continue through to the next round with Men’s Doubles number 1 seeds Marcus Ellis and Chris Langridge, and Men’s Singles number 6 seed Mark Caljouw both winning in solid two game matches.
