The BARFOOT & THOMPSON New Zealand Open entered it's first day of main draw action today.

A number of European competitors have travelled across the world to compete in this year's event as part of the HSBC BWF World Tour Super 300 in the North Shore Events Centre, Auckland.

Today's results for European players include:

Lee Cheuk Yiu from Hong Kong won against Czech Republic's Milan Ludik 21-10 21-18.

Niluka Karunaratne from Sri Lanka won against Adam MENDREK, also from  Czech Republic in three sets 18-21 21-12 21-16.

Yesterday's success story from qualifiers, dual-national pairing Jakob Lindqvist from Denmark and Christopher Steeghs from New Zealand went down 21-8 21-14 to Tahiland's Pakin Kuna-Anuivt and Natthapat Trinkajee.

England's Georgina Bland went down in two extremely close games 21-19 21-17 against Mattana Hemrachatanun from Thailand.

Manwhile, Sabrina Jaquet from Switerzland triumphed over Ksenia Polikarpova from Isreal with a 21-18 21-9 win.

Sabrina Jacquet happy with her performance

- Today I played well and I'm happy with the win. The first set was quite equal, a great fight and I'm happy that I got solid at the end and won it. In the second set, I could put my game better in place, and I saw Ksenia going a bit down, which helped me to take the win. Tomorrow another tough challenge is waiting for me with a match against Gregoria Mariska Tunjung, from Indonesia, but I feel ready for it, says Sabrina.
