Bulgaria’s Stefani and Gabriela Stoeva entered the court for the first final of the day to face the surprise from France Emilie Lefel and Anne Tran.

The French got off to a decent start and the rallies where long a tough. But the Bulgarian defense was too big of a challenge for them in the end and the second seeded Stoevas took the first game; 21-12.

In the second game, the Stoevas were tuned in, and the experience and confidence from last year’s final secured them a safe victory in the end; 21-10.

Stefani and Gabriela Stoeva played the final at the 2017 European Championships in Kolding, where they lost to Kamilla Rytter Juhl and Christinna Pedersen from Denmark. They went home with then historic silver medals.

This year, the sisters take the top of the podium as European champions in women’s doubles - The first gold medal in European badminton history for Bulgaria.

- I still cannot believe that we made it. We have been trying to do this for three years, Stefani Stoeva told Badminton Europe after the prize ceremony.

- A European title will bring a lot of popularity in Bulgaria, and we hope that it will continue for the next years, Gabriela said.
