The home crowd favourite and Spain’s badminton star Carolina Marin kept the fire going for one more day. Sunday will be the final’s day at the 2018 European Championships and the Spaniard can regain the gold on home ground.

Mia Blichfeldt, seeded third, from Denmark, gave the Spanish champion resistance from the very start, On the other side of the net. The Dane took the lead in the first game, but Marin turned it around with help from the spectators.

- I knew from the beginning that it was going to be really tough today. She is playing really good and she is improving her game, Marin said about her Danish opponent.

The Olympic champion and two-time world champion beat Blichfeldt; 21-17 21-16.

- The crowd today helped me a lot and together we pushed her. They gave me all of their support and I feel better with myself to keep playing and to keep calm.

Marin would love it if this crowd could follow her around to tournaments all year around. But for now, she is going to enjoy her last match in front of them in Huelva tomorrow.

Russia’s Evgeniya Kosetskaya shut down Denmark’s Line Kjærsfeldt in two games, 21-10, 21-14, in the other half of the women’s singles draw. The Russian will play, not only her first European final, but also her first match against Marin on Sunday.
