With only three days to go until the 2018 European Championships kick off in Huelva, Spain, players undergo their final preparations for the continents biggest event!

Spanish superstar, reigning European Champion (for the last three years), reigning Olympic Champion and current world number seven Carolina Marín is amongst one of the favourites to win this year, entering the Women’s Singles draw as first seed. Not only will she be playing in front of her own country, but her friends and family will be closeby too as she will be competing in her hometown.

What are Carolina's expectations regarding the 2018 European Championships?
I’m so excited. It’s a tournament really special for me: I have the opportunity to play in my country, in my city and in the Carolina Marín Sports Centre. So I want to enjoy every minute of this tournament and I’m going to give my best to win the gold medal again, says Carolina.

What does Carolina think of the draw?
There are 4 or 5 top players that could win the gold medal. But if I want to win my 4th title I have  to win all the matches and I know that every one of my opponents want to beat me, says Carolina.

If Carolina wins she will be the player with most titles in women’s singles. What does that mean to her?
It would make me so proud, but first I have to win. I don’t want think about what comes next, I’m focused on working hard to win again the gold medal, says Carolina.

The European Championships will take place from 24-29 April. Make sure you stay up to date with the latest news and events by following results of the draw here.
