England achieved their best Commonwealth Games medal tally in 16 years after four pairings booked their place in gold-medal matches that took place today.

After their heroic victory over the Malaysian pair Goh V Shem and Tan Wee Kiong in the semi-final, Marcus Ellis and Chris Langridge secured England's first men's badminton doubles title in 40 years with victory against Indian second seeds Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty.

England’s Women’s Doubles pair Lauren Smith and Sarah Walker were beaten 21-12 21-12 in the women’s doubles final by Malaysia’s Chow Mei Kuan and Vivian Hoo. For Smith however, this is one better than her bronze at the last games when playing with Gabrielle Adcock.

Despite being an all English final in the Mixed Doubles, there was no let-up between them in a thoroughly hard-fought final, which went the distance. Marcus Ellis and Lauren Smith both added a silver to their medal collection after losing out to Chris and Gabby Adcock 19-21 21-17 21-16, who brilliantly retained their title. Both pairs gaining some great form leading into the European Championships 2018 taking place 24-27 April.
