Caljouw looking for the double

After a disappointing start, Mark Caljouw will be looking  -start his 2018 season by defending his 2017 men’s singles title. The Dutchmanhas had a rough start to the year, and has yet to win back-to-back matches in one tournament. He is coming into this event as the fourth seed.

The only other higher-ranked European player is Denmark’s Rasmus Gemke. With a strong showing at the European Men’s Team Championships and a quarter-finals appearance at the Indonesia Masters to show for, Gemke will be aiming to secure their first title of the year.

Other seeded European players to watch out for are Spain’s number one Pablo Abian, Denmark’s Emil Holst and Swiss Open semi-finalist and French number two Lucas Corvee.

It has already been a strong season for Gabriela and Stefani Stoeva. The Bulgarian sisters are top seeds for the women’s doubles and are looking to make a quick return to the world’s top 10, as well as replicating their win in 2015 this week will likely see that happen. Looking to prevent that from happening are Denmark’s fourth seeded pair Maiken Fruergaard and Sara Thygesen. They may be ranked 24 in the world, but their form is of top-ten quality.

In-between them are second seeds Anastasia Chervyakova and Olga Morozova from Russia and third seeded Germany pair Isabel Herttrich and Carla Nelte.

The men’s doubles could see a few surprises along the way. While the form is not on the side of second seeds Jones Ralfy Jansen and Josche Zurwonne as well as third seeds Mark Lamsfuss and Marvin Emil Seidel, hopes still remain high for these talented German pairs.

The same goes for Dutch hopefuls Jacco Arends and Ruben Jille along with Jelle Maas and Robin Tabeling. It has been a slow but quiet start both for both pairs in 2018. But with them entering the tournament at fourth and fifth seeds respectively, they remain confident of at least going deep in France.

Looking to also drop their hat into the ring are Denmark’s Kasper Antonsen and Niclas Nohr, who enter as eighth seeds.

Lamsfuss and Herttrich lead the mixed

A lot of the men’s and women’s doubled seeded players are also looking for mixed doubles glory. For Germany’s Mark Lamsfuss and Isabel Herttrich, they will be targeting consecutive titles at this event, and the top seeds have already had a memorable 2018 with a title at the Swiss Open to their name.

Two titles in Austria and Brazil, and a final appearance in Vietnam has seen Evgenij Dremin and Evgenia Dimova be in red-hot form. With a lot of strong pairs competing and not being in the same form, this could seethe Russian pair make a further breakthrough.
