Denmark grab top seeding

The seeding for the 2013 European Mixed Team Championships in Russia (12 – 17 February 2013) has been published by Badminton Europe today. The seeding of the eight best teams is based on the BWF world rankings from 29th November 2012.

Denmark, the record champion of this competition, have pipped Germany and Russia to the last top seeding for the 2013 European Mixed Team Championships. They join England, Netherlands, France, Sweden and Scotland among the eight leading teams when the draw takes place next Tuesday in Copenhagen.

The event will be played in 8 groups with 5 groups consisting of 4 teams and 3 groups consisting of 3 teams. The eight seeds will all be leading their groups. As with every European Mixed Team Championships, teams must finish on top spot in their group to qualify for the knockout quarter-finals phase.

Final seeding positions in the 2013 European Mixed Team Championships:

1 Denmark, 2 Germany, 3 Russia, 4 England, 5 Netherlands, 6 France, 7 Sweden, 8 Scotland

Denmark have won the last eight European titles and 13 in all since the competition began in 1972. England have been the champion nation five times but have not struck gold since the 1984 Europeans. Sweden are the only other nation to have been champions (1992 and 1994) and they are seeded at number 7.

It is the third time the European Mixed Team Championship has not been played concurrently with the European Individual Championships. A total of 29 nations confirmed their entries for the tournament taking place in the town of Ramenskoye, 25 kilometers outside Moscow.

Group matches Tuesday-Thursday (12-14 February)
Quarter Finals Friday 15 Feb
Semi Finals Saturday 16 Feb
Final Sunday 17 Feb

The draw will be published on 11 December and the full playing schedule will be published on 18 December.
