Jacco Arends and Selena Piek (The Netherlands) missed the spot for the quarter finals at the 2018 Yonex All England Open Championships . In two close games they lost to Japanese pair Yuta Watanabe and Arisa Higashino.

- The first game was a very slow start for us. We used too much speed in the rally’s which caused us a small gap in score for us, Piek commented after their match to Badminton Europe.

The second game went better for Piek and Arends. At some point they even caught  a strong on their opponents.

- Jacco played so well from half to rear court, which enabled me to play better at the net. Unfortunately some few mistakes in the end made it was over, Piek continued.

Just a little better

Arends and Piek had not faced the Japanese pair before, but have been watching them to prepare for the game.

- We have seen some matches of them and planned a strategy for the match, Arends told Badminton Europe.

-We were well prepared but they were playing a little better. Sometimes that is how it is.
