One half of the mixed doubles runner-ups from the 2017 European Championships has accepted a wild card with his new partner from Badminton Europe.

Joachim Fischer and Alexandra Bøje from Denmark will be joining the list of players to compete for the 2018 European Championships in Huelva, Spain, from 24 April.

- We are thankful that Badminton Europe has given us this wild card, and we want to prove that they have given in to the right pair, Joachim Fischer said.

- We really want to win a medal for our association and we think that we have a shot at it, as well. Right now, it seems that Chris and Mathias (Christinna Pedersen and Mathias Christiansen) is the strongest pair in Europe and are a level above the rest of us, but we feel that we have the competence to compete with some of the other pairs in the top, and we also have a month and a half to become even better that vi are right now.

First Europeans for Bøje
The 39-year-old Dane has already won the European Championships twice, whereas his 18-year-old partner will be attending her first European Championships as a senior player.

- I am so excited and I hope we will be able to perform well at the European Championships. It will be great to play my first Europeans as a senior, and I hope that it will be a nice experience and I am happy to play with Joachim, Bøje said.

Including this wild card, Badminton Denmark will have three mixed doubles represented in Huelva; Fischer/Bøje, Mathias Christiansen/Christinna Pedersen and Niclas Nøhr/Sara Thygesen.

Badminton Europe will be presenting all the wild cards for the 2018 European Championships today on Tuesday. The wild card for women's singles will be published at 12 PM (CET). Stay tuned on our website and social media for more.
