The Spanish women’s singles tried to change her game plan between the games against China’s Gao Fangjie, in the first round of YONEX German Open.

Corrales lost the first game 21-11 but came back onto the court with more power and confidence. This also resulted in her taking the lead for the first part of the second game.

- In the first game, the main problem was that I was playing too risky and made many easy mistakes. It was less comfortable for me and good for her.

- When she was in the lead she would play good quality shots. So, my plan in the second set was to start aggressive but making sure I was not making the easy mistakes, Corrales explained to Badminton Europe.

The plan worked up until 12-10, then the Chinese caught up with Corrales and she lost the second game 21-14.

Looking forward
Corrales was with Spain’s women’s team in Kazan last month and explained that she had not had much time in the practice hall this period leading up to the tournament.

- Sometimes it is good during the season to have these kinds of periods where you play more matches and don’t have that much training. But now I just go back and start preparing for All England next week.

- A lot of my focus is also going to be on the European Championships. We are trying to get our best performance in Huelva with the all of the Spanish people and I think it is going to be amazing.

Another Spanish player found his through Day 2 at German Open. Men’s singles Pablo Abian beat France’s Brice Leverdez in straight games; 21-19, 21-17. On Wednesday he will play Jonathan Christie from Indonesia in Round 2.
