The Super 300-tournament was the first BWF tournament hosted on European ground since the launch of the new HSBC BWF World Tour. And European players were represented in four out of five finals on Sunday.

Mark Lamsfuss and Isabel Herttrich were seeded first and lived up to the expectations by beating the English Marcus Ellis and Lauren Smith.

Both finalist constellations had a national encounter in the semifinals, where Ellis and Smith beat their compatriots Ben Lane and Jessica Pugh rather comfortably with the score; 21-8, 21-4.

But in the final, Smith and Ellis’ hard work was not enough as they lost in a close final against Lamsfuss and Herttrich; 20-22, 19-21.

Boe and Mogensen win title before All England
The top men’s doubles from Denmark are making great preparations for All England next month in Birmingham. Swiss Open was their last planned tournament before the Super 1000-tournament kicks off on 14 March.

In Switzerland, Boe and Mogensen proved to be the best pair as they won the final 21-15, 21-11 against Tinn Isriyanet and Kittisak Namdash from Thailand.

The Thai pair beat the second seeded Danes Mathias Christiansen and David Daugaard in the second round of the tournament and found their superiors in the last final on Sunday.

Jørgensen and Stoevas settle as runner-ups
The comeback of Jan Ø. Jørgensen from Denmark was in motion this week as he continues his way back to the top of the world’s badminton scene. He made his initial debut at the 2018 European Men’s Team Championships where he, without dropping a single game, helped Denmark succeed for the trophy.

Last week in Basel was his first individual tournament since Australian Open in June 2017. The Dane performed well on his way to the final. His last opponent Sameer Verma from India proved to be too much and the Dane had to settle as runner-up.

The Stoeva sisters represented the European continent in the women’s doubles final. The Bulgarian women’s doubles did not lose a game up until the final, where they suffered a defeat to Ayako Sakuramoto and Yuikko Takahata from Japan; 19-21, 21-15, 21-18.
