Luxembourg to host 2019 European Club Championships
At the Board of Directors Meeting in Copenhagen on January 21st it was decided to allocate the 2019 European Club Championships to Luxembourg. 

It will be the first time, that Luxembourg will host a Badminton Europe event. The event will
take place from July 3
rd-7th 2019 in the city of Junglinster.


Allocation of the 2018 European Senior Championships
Prior to the Board of Directors meeting in Copenhagen is was decided by e-mail to allocate the 2018 European Senior Championships (ESC) to Guadalajara, Spain. The decision was unanimously reconfirmed at the Board of Directors meeting.


Upgrade of Technical Officials

The Major Events Commission confirmed the upgrading of the following European Technical Officials:

Solveig Jonsdottir, ISL

New age group at European Senior Championships

The Board of Directors approved a request from the Major Event Commission of adding the +75-age group to be introduced for the European Senior Championships in Guadalajara, Spain in September 2018.



BASIS success

The BASIS program is running and is already a success. A new logo is revealed, the first two shadow programs went well, and in the near future the first representative visit (Communication Manager going to Czech Rep.) will take place, and Maria Bubucea from the Moldavian Badminton Federation will join the BEC Office as an intern.   


New Member in Women in Badminton Commission

Laura Lee Jenkins (IRL) who is a member of the Para-Badminton Commissions has joined the Women in Badminton Commission. Her first Women in Badminton Commission meeting was on Friday January 19th 2018.



New BEC App to be launched

The Board of Directors agreed to launch the new Badminton Europe app just before the ADM in April. The app will among other things provide news, pictures, draws, livestream and live score.



New digital strategy

Badminton Europe will in 2018 work on a new digital strategy. At the Commercial Commission meeting a working group was formed. The working group will consist of Robbert de Kock (Chair of Commission), Emma Mason (Vice-chair of Commission) and Brian Agerbak (General Secretary) and will determining the scope of the RFP for a digital consultant. Afterwards all Commissions will be included in the overall strategy. 



Amended Elite Circuit Regulations

The Board of Directors approved the request from the Circuit Commission of the amended Elite Circuit Regulations. 


The key changes were:


- BEC Elite Circuit tournament must be played on portable mats, which are approved by the BWF. 

- the withdrawal deadline has been moved from Sundays to Mondays. 

- the daily allowance for referees has been increased to 60 euro.


The regulations will be valid from February 1st 2018.



2019 Minsk European Games 
The venue for badminton is excellent with the official hotel and village in close proximity. The European Games will carry WR-points similar to the European Championships. A test event will take place in September 2018, and an inspection visit will also take place.



BEC Rules

After dialogue with BWF, BWF Legal Manager and BEC lawyers, BEC finished the review of the Badminton Europe Rules.

On December 11
th the Member Associations received an e-mail, where the General Secretary appealed to the Member Associations to give feedback before January 10th 2018. A few minor inputs were received from MA’s, and the new Rules will be officially tabled at the 2018 Annual Delegates’ Meeting in Dubrovnik, Croatia on April 14th 2018. 



GDPR

The new General Data Protection Regulation will come into effect on May 25th 2018.


In short, the regulation is made to make it easier for EU citizens to understand how their data is being used, and also raise any complaints should their personal data not be handled appropriately.


BEC and all Member Associations needs to be aware how we store and treat data to ensure compliance with the new regulation and develop relevant policies and procedures.



BEC Vulnerable People Safeguarding Policy 
At the 2017 Annual Delegates’ Meeting the BEC Board was requested to include a Vulnerable People Safeguarding Policy as part of the overall governance review.


This policy was presented and approved by the Board of Directors and will be introduced to the Member Associations at the 2018 Annual Delegates’ Meeting in April.

The Board of Directors decided to have the next Board of Directors & Commission Meetings on June 15th-17th 2018. The meeting will be advertised for MA’s to host.
