The individual event of the 2017 European U17 Championships are closing in and the quarter-finalists have almost been found. Anastasiia Pustinskaia from Russia took the last step towards that after three sets against Vlada Gynga.

The second seeded Russian started off great and took the lead 11-4, which quickly became a 21-8 win in the first set. But in the second set, Gynga of Moldova got more confidence and the two players set off to play a thriller of a match which went into a deciding set.

- I made a lot of mistakes and I changed my game plan. And in the end of the second set at 18-18, she got lucky on the net.

I needed to play more aggressive like in the first set, but I got very nervous and I made a lot of mistakes, the Russian explained to Badminton Europe.

- I could barely move on court
Pustinskaia explained that the anger from the second set defeat gave her the energy to rise in the third. They were very even in the beginning of the decider, but Pustinskaia left Gynga behind at 11-7 and never looked back.

- I don’t know how I won. It was long rallies and a tough set. I could barely move on court. But I thought about my future and my plan for this championship and I was angry that she won the second set.

- I was hoping that I could end in top 4, that was my goal. But now my goal is to be more than that – I want to win, Pustinsakaia says to Badminton Europe after winning 21-8, 18-21, 21-11.
