Denmark crowned European U17 Team Champions

I mixed double victory was the deciding factor for the Danish national team when they claimed their 7th European Team Championship title for players under 17.

- It is so fantastic. It is so cool to stand here right now. It was a fantastic experience being the last one on court. I am totally high right now.

The words are from Danish Sara Grundtvig, who won the Women’s singles for Denmark against Zehra Erdem representing Turkey 21-13 21-8.

- I had some nerves going into the match, but quickly I felt good, and then I just started playing, Grundtvig says.


Crucial mixed doubles
The mixed double was the first match in The Team Championship Final and it was a real thriller.

Turkish Bengisu Ercetin/Samih Baha Basakin won the first game 21-12, and Christine Busch/Rasmus Espersen Franck Prasz took the second 21-9. The third game was a nail biter. The Danes won it 26-24.

- We really had to fight for this. It was a tough one, Rasmus Espersen Franck Prasz told Badminton Europe after the match.


7th title in a row
In the men’s singles it was clear, that Magnus Johannesen from Denmark was in control. The 15-year-old Dane won 21-11 21-14 against Sezgin Kelebek and cleared the way for Sophia Grundtvig, who became the match winner for the Danes.

Denmark claimed their 7
th title in a row, Turkey can bring back the first silver medal, and Scotland and England can both bring bronze medals back over the Channel.
