Danish badminton fans are urged to turn out in great numbers at the 2013 Yonex All England Open Badminton Championships and salute the glittering career of Tine Baun as she makes her last appearance on the Superseries circuit.

Baun, now 33, has confirmed she will retire from playing badminton at international level after the 2013 Yonex All England Open in Birmingham next March.  The Denmark legend, who won the prestigious All England Open in 2008 and 2010, announced her decision to bring the curtain down on her career at the NIA in Birmingham whilst competing in the Denmark Open.

The world no. 6 has been amongst the world’s badminton elite for almost a decade and won many major titles in that time.  Following her final appearance at the 2013 Yonex All England Open Badminton Championships, Baun will dedicate time to her studies in nutrition, spending more time with her husband Martin and maybe extending the family.

She stated, “I am 33 years old and I think the time has come for me to say goodbye to badminton. I have been playing competitive badminton for 25 years. I’m finding it hard against younger players.”

Baun further added, “I want to have children and I am also going to further my studies. It’s good to leave when one is at the top of the game. I will miss it but I am sure that Denmark will produce more players. Some are young right now but, given time, they will make it to the top like me.”
