Two European medalists sat down for the very first BEC Podcast to a friendly conversation with Mark Phelan about women’s singles in Europe.

Kirsty Gilmour from Scotland and Mette Poulsen from Denmark are competitors but also colleagues in the sense of creating a higher level of women’s singles on the continent.

For the first published edition of Badminton Europe’s podcast, the conversation touched the level of women’s singles, Carolina’s strength and what the European countries can learn from the dominant Asian players.

 The Danish national champion, Mette Poulsen, underlines the Danish mentality and puts into words why Denmark, according to her, has an upperhand;

There is so much competition in Denmark too and so if you want to be the best you really have to push the limit all the time. So, I think it would be really good if the players from Europe and the top from Europe are sharing these things with each other.

Sharing their knowledge
Gilmour thinks that Asia has a huge advantage simply in volume, and that the European countries are struggling to keep the players that they have;

- I think the only way that we can reach the kind of quality that the Asian players have had for so many years is if we work together as countries, Gilmour says in the podcast.

- I think we are starting to do that a little bit better. But I think Denmark is the only country who really does that have already reached that quality, they are already world champions in many events.

And I think it’s going to take them sharing their knowledge and all of the other countries coming together to kind of build together and get there.
