Badminton Europe is happy to announce that the Major Events Commission has approved the successful assessment of 5 new BEC Certificated umpires.

The assessments were conducted at the 2017 Denmark Open in Odense, Denmark. Each candidate did a written exam on Wednesday morning 18th of October, duration 90 minutes.

All candidates were visually assessed from Tuesday morning shift including the quarter-finals on Friday.

The approved candidates are:
Haidar Dittoo, France
Arnaud Verdon, Switzerland
Goran Jelesijevic, Serbia
Ilkka Vainio, Finland
Jörg Heiskel, Germany

- We are obviously very happy about the outcome of the assessment in Odense, where 5 of our umpires passed their certificated assessment. They proved able to work under pressure, both in the theoretical part, but also on court amongst the world’s best players, says Jimmy Andersen, BEC Senior Manager.

- Our game has developed a lot over the years, and therefore it is essential that our umpires develop as well – and only umpires being good enough pass these assessments.
