The next couple of weeks are going to be challenging for partner Mathias Christiansen and herself, as they look ahead after a defeat to world’s number six, Zhang and Li from China; 19-21, 14-21.

The new Danish mixed doubles constellation of Christinna Pedersen and Mathias Christiansen had their first try as mixed doubles partners in the first round of Danisa Denmark Open, on Tuesday.

- No one expected that we went out there and beat those two today. But it was obvious that the both of us have been looking forward to playing our first match, which maybe resulted in some tension in the body. But that is only a positive thing, Pedersen tells Badminton Europe.

- The first set was actually OK but we get the feeling that we were always running a bit behind. We had the chances but it was not enough, Christiansen adds.

Starting from scratch
Christiansen and Pedersen both experienced success with their previous partners, but this new partnership is something they are both looking forward to explore in the future.

- It was great to play our first match and we have been looking forward to getting on court and play together, Pedersen explains about their very first match together, which they have worked hard to prepare for during the three weeks leading up to Denmark Open.

- It is exciting to start from scratch and unite in the language of badminton. It is super motivating for me.

The goal is to learn
Smaller mistakes and misunderstandings will occur when a new pair is ‘born’, and when there is no video material to study or experiences to draw on, the Danish duo hope to take small steps each week.

- Our objective is not based on results at the moment. But we hope to be able to learn a lot in the weeks to come, Pedersen explains.

- We are taking a lot with us from this match, and we have to be ready for next week in France. So, we will go home and look at this match and find out where we can improve, Christiansen says.
