Coming into this week’s Czech Open Scottish duo Adam Hall & Alex Dunn were not touted as one of the potential winners of men’s doubles title given the quality of the field entered. With four top Danish pairs, seasoned French contenders and a host of Asian pairs entered the men’s doubles was always going to be the most fiercely contested discipline.

Adam Hall’s pedigree has been known for some time as he served his apprenticeship alongside Bob Blair before funding issues ended his GB exploits beside Peter Mills. Alex Dunn made himself known earlier in the year on his run to a silver medal in the European junior mixed doubles and since then has taken to senior life like a duck to water. Together the Scottish duo are starting to look like a formidable unit after a series of semi final and finals in just 6 months together as a pair.

After today’s last 16 and quarter final matches the Scottish pair have now set themselves out as one of the pairs to beat after blasting by fourth seeds Maio & Kersaudy in this evenings quarter final.

The Scottish have now set up an all GB semi final against Lane & Vendy of England who themselves have had an excellent tournament under the stewardship of former world champion Nathan Robertson.

“We had a good summer of training at home so we knew we arrived in Brno prepared.” said Hall after their win. “We got off to a great start in both sets and dictated the play for most parts of the match. It’s a good feeling to reach the semi final in such a strong tournament and tomorrow all we can hope for is to play our best again as the English will be very difficult to beat given their great form this week.”

In all there will be three British pairs in the men’s doubles semi finals with Polish pair Cwalina & Bochat making up the quartet and will play top seeds Briggs & Wolfenden for a place in the final.

Young Turks take no prisoners

It is just over 18 months since Bengisu Ercetin and Nazlican Inci (pictured above) won a silver medal at the European U17 championships in Poland. Today in Brno the Turks blasted their way into the semi final taking no prisoners on route as they announced themselves onto the senior circuit.

The Turks have flirted with success on the circuit this past year with a pair of runners up spots. However, this week in Brno is a marked step up in level in both tournament status and competition and Ercetin and Inci have risen to the occasion.

The Turks took care of Kaminski and Pohl in today’s quarter final and have all the armoury to troubles top seeds Walker and Smith of England in tomorrow’s semi final.

Neslihan Yigit rounded off a great day for the Turks as she beat number two seed Mette Poulsen to advance to the women’s singles semi finals. Yigit has won her last two tournaments albeit at a lower level that this week’s International challenge but the Turk looks to have the form to make it a hat trick of titles and now plays Delphine Lansac for a place in the final.
