Sara Thygesen and her mixed doubles partner Mathias Christiansen were one out of three European entries that are through from the first day at Korea Open.

Thygesen and Christiansen (Denmark) played their first-round match at Korea Open where they defeated Eui Seok Chung and Hae Won Yoo in three sets; 18-21, 21-11, 21-19.

A close result that reflects that this was their first match in the tournament.
- There was a lot of tailwind and headwind, Thygesen explains to Badminton Europe.

- It became a bit intense by the end of the match, but actually turned out OK since we ended on the good side.
Made it work
After the break in the third set, the Danes where on the ‘headwind’ side, where it was easiest for them to play.

- We made it work when we had headwind, and then it worked out nicely when we were able to play the shuttles short and added some angles to the strokes so that the Koreans couldn’t just run directly into the them.

Thygesen and Christiansen are taking it ‘one match at a time’ and are ready for the 2nd round tomorrow alongside two other European mixed pairs.
European mixed success
The World Championship medalists from Glasgow, Chris and Gabrielle Adcock of England, were behind the second of the three European victories of the day.

Marvin Emil Seidel and Linda Efler secured a German entry in the second round. The Germans entered the top of the draw and won their first-round match; 22-20, 22-20.

The last European mixed doubles still to play their first round is Anders Skaarup Rasmussen and Line Kjærsfeldt of Denmark. They are facing a Japenese mixed doubles on Wednesday.
