Since 2009 the North Atlantic Camp has been held in North Atlantic region – either in Iceland, in Greenland or Faroe Islands. The 2017 version of the North Atlantic Camp for players from U13 to U17, a Regional Project supported by Badminton Europe, has been held on Faroe Islands from 7-13 August. The camp took place in Sandavágur, a small lovely village in Faroe Islands.

24 players, from Iceland, Greenland and Faroe Islands participated in the camp while 8 coaches took part in a training course. The camp consisted of four days of training, with daily training sessions that lasted 2½ hours in the morning and 2½ hours in the afternoon. One afternnon the training was replaced by a Team Event. Every day two seperate ½ hour coach session were held in the morning and in the afternoon. After dinner the players enjoyed different kinds of social activities.

During the week there was also time for sightseeing. One day the participants had a hiking trip along the Faroe Islands largest lake to the beautiful waterfall Bøsdalafossur and the perpendicular rock Trælanipa. On the last day of the camp, the tournament “North Atlantic Cup” was played.

"From the start in 2009, every year either Faroe Island, Iceland or Greenland have held the North Atlantic Camp – a initiative where the aim is to bring talented players and trainers from the three countries together so they can learn from each other and work together to lift the level of badminton in the region. Once again the North Atlantic Camp was a success – thanks to the experienced head coach from Portugal, Jorge Pitarma, that led the camp in a engaged, opened and positive manner” said Erik Engelbrecht Thomsen, the president of the Faroese Badminton Association.

"This week we saw 24 players and 8 coaches with a strong desire to work hard and learn more about technical, tactical and physical work. It was amazing all the effort they made in each training session, excellent interactivity between coaches with the constant exchange of ideas and discussion, as well as correcting and motivating players during all training sessions, excellent facilities and full support of the organization so that nothing was missing from all of us, was a fantastic week of work and great atmosphere among all" said Jorge Pitarma, head coach of the training camp.

Badminton Europe is again delighted to help the North Atlantic Regional Project taking place, we are already looking forward for the 2018 edition!
