The 6th player announcement for the upcoming Centre of Excellence (COE) presents Toni Woods from Scotland. From 1 September 2017, Woods, 18, and the other COE players will start up at Stenhus Gymnasium.

Woods has just finished her studies at the Glasgow School of Sport and is currently still training back in Scotland. But from 1 September she can call BEC Centre of Excellence her home.

“I am very excited to be joining the Centre of Excellence. I can't wait to settle in and start training full time. I know this is a great move for me and this opportunity will help improve my badminton level in many different ways. It's a big move for me, of course, to move to a different country away from my family and friends but I'm looking forward to meeting new people and becoming more independent. “

Currently, Woods is in the process of passing into the senior level, and her short-term goal for this season is to earn as many ranking points to improve her overall senior ranking. To be selected to compete for her country at the Commonwealth and Olympic Games goes hand in hand with her long-term aim to reach the world ranking’s top 20 in women´s singles.

But speaking within a couple of years, she hopes to be able to reach the semi-finals/finals at International Challenge tournaments.

“Badminton Europe and the Centre of Excellence can help me a lot because it provides me with a full-time structured training programme and high-performance coaches which is what I need to become the player I want to be. I was at the Selection camp in Holbaek where I experienced the coaching and training that will take place at the CEO which I enjoyed very much.

Also, the level of the players that attended the Selection Camp was high so the centre gives me the opportunity to spar with these different players which will allow me to improve and learn. So overall, the Centre of Excellence is the best option for me to reach the level I want to be at and to achieve my short and long-term goals.”, Woods explains to how the COE can help her as a player.

She chose the COE because she has always wanted to start training full-time to reach her goals;

“I know this is the best opportunity for me to accomplish my goals. The facilities at the Centre of Excellence are really good with everything I need to improve. I'm looking forward to training and working with new players and different coaches and will use this opportunity to learn and develop new skills. “
