After four years on French soil the 2017 edition of the European Club Championships skips across the Alps to Italy where Milan and hosts Calvi Network BC Milano welcome the national champions from across the continent between 20th and 24th June. Today at BEC headquarters the LIVE DRAW was conducted for the group stages of the tournament where both Italian representatives were pitted against each other in group 2.

Calvi Network BC Milano have been one of the most improved teams over the past number of years in the European Club Championships which culminated in their run to the bronze medal in Tours in 2015. With neither Italian team seeded for this 2017 edition there was always an outside chance of both could meet in the group and that eventually came to pass in this afternoons draw.

In a four team group both Italian teams, Milano and SSV Bozen, have been drawn alongside Primorye Vladivostok. The Russian champions have been the most prolific winners of the competition this past decade and will be favourites again to win in 2017. Making up group 2 are Lokomotiva Kosice the Slovak champions.

GROUP 2: Primorye Vladivostok (RUS), Calvi Network BC Milano (ITA), Lokomotiva Kosice (SVK), SSV Bozen Badminton (ITA)

Group 1 has top seeds and defending champions Issy Les Moulineaux (pictured above winning in Tours 2016) as the team to beat. Group 1 is a three team group and we welcome back the Swedish champions Fyrisfjadern to Europe’s premier club competition after many years absence. The Swedes will have a very strong team travelling to Milano and even though it’s their first year back in the competition Fyrisfjadern will be expected to go a long way with their array of Swedish stars declared for the event.

Rounding out group 1 is Swiss champions Team Argovia. Not to be discounted in this group Argovia have a host of players capable of winning any match on a given day declared for the tournament. It just remains to be seen have they the strength in depth. Group 1 looks to be shaping up as the group of death in Milan as defending champions Issy Les Moulineaux look just a tad weaker on the men’s side with the injured Gaetan Mittleheisser not featuring this year.

GROUP 1: Issy Les Moulineaux (FRA), Fyrisfjadern (SWE), Team Argovia (SUI)

Group 3 is another 4 team group with French champions Chambly the hot favourites to top this group. Indeed the French could not have asked for a better draw and will even enjoy the luxury of easing their players into the tournament. Anderlecht (BEL), Maderia (POR) & TBR of Iceland make up the group with all in with a realistic chance of joining the French in the quarter finals as group runners up.

GROUP 3: BC Chambly Oise (FRA), BAD 79 Anderlecht (BEL), Club Sports Da Madeira (POR), TBR (ISL)

Heading up group 4 is Pablo Abian’s (pictured above) Recreativo Les La Orden. The Spanish champions won bronze last year and like Chambly in group 3 should ease through their group. Latvia join the Euro clubs party with BK Valmiera and alongside Luxembourg champions BC Jonglenster will be the tournament underdogs. Czech champions Deltacar Benatky will be favourites to join Recreativo into the quarter finals where all the action gets under way on June 20th in Pala Badminton, Milano.

GROUP 4: Recreativo Les La Orden (ESP), BK Valmiera (LAT), BC Jonglenster (LUX), BK 1973 Deltacar Benatky
