British international coach Joann Hughes was recently in Malta in order to conduct a Badminton Training Course.

Organised by Badminton Malta (BM) in collaboration with the Badminton World Federation (BWF) and the Badminton Europe Confederation (BEC), this training course was primarily intended for the members of the Sports Promotion Unit within the Malta Sports Council (Kunsill Malti ghall-iSport - KMS).

A number of PE Teachers from local schools, as well as some BM coaches, also took part.

The event was inaugurated by Mr. Gino Schiavone, KMS Chief Executive Officer. It was spread over two full days and was entirely held at the Cottonera Sports Complex.

The training course integrated theoretical and practical aspects; in this way, the participants could assimilate the latest technical and tactical knowhow about the game.

It is to be noted that this Training Course forms an integral part of the strategy, jointly implemented by BWF and BEC, to raise the profile of this sport in schools.

It is also the first Training Course of its kind to be held in Europe; the fact that it was held in Malta reflects quite positively on the local National Association.

BM expressed its satisfaction at the high level of competent training which Hughes has provided to the participants in this Training Course.

BM also expressed its gratitude to BWF and BEC, as well as to KMS, for the valuable support provided in the successful organisation of this event.
