The 2016 Scottish Open concluded today in the Emirates Arena Glasgow with Denmark’s Mathias Christiansen and David Daugaard picking up their second Scottish Open title after their maiden Grand Prix success two years ago.

The Danes were forced to do it the hard way coming back from a set down against home town favourite Adam Hall and his English partner Peter Mills. The GB pair had the full support of the 2000 spectators behind them and looked to be heading towards the top step of the podium after taking the opening game 21-15.

There was never more than two points between the pairs in the second game but the Danes took two points in succession at 19-19 to take the match to a deciding set.

The GB pair won the first point of that third set but that was to be as good as it got as the Danes took control and were never headed to win the title, their second Scottish Open success, with a 21-15 deciding set victory.

“We feel very at home here in this arena. Of course, the crowd were behind Peter and Adam but when we won they were also very quick to applaud us and we thank them for that.” Said Christiansen after the victory

Danes clinch both singles titles

Denmark proved once again to be the dominant force this week in Glasgow adding the men’s and women’s singles to the men’s doubles. Anders Antonsen claimed his first Grand Prix success declaring he is the one, the real successor to players like Gade and Jorgensen for Denmark, in his post-match on court interview with English legend Gail Emms.

The Dane beat Malaysian Joo Ven Soong for the second time in three months to land the crown, one that had always been coming for the uber talented Dane.

Mette Poulsen then ended the fantastic run of Sabrina Jaquet to claim the women’s singles title the biggest win of her career to date. Jaquet as always fought to the bitter end and Poulsen had to dig deep to see off the Swiss number one in three sets.

“That was a tough match today against Sabrina. She is such a fighter and I knew I needed to disrupt her flow a little bit while taking my chances when I had the opportunity. This is the biggest win of my career and something I will really enjoy when it sinks in”

In the all Malaysian women’s doubles final Lim & Yap beat Anscelly and Teoh to take the title and Malaysian qualifiers Goh & Lai lifted the mixed title with a win over top seeded Indians Chopra & Reddy.
