Denmark’s Irina Amalie Andersen was the player of the day in the finals of the Finnish International in Helsinki lifting two titles while home players Anton Kaisti and Jenny Nystrom added their home title to their mixed doubles title from Norway last week.

With the experimental scoring system being tested this week on Finland many players were on unfamiliar ground. Denmark’s Irina Amalie Andersen coped with the pressure and the ‘moving goalposts’ best of all winning both the women’s singles and women’s doubles alongside Julie Dawall Jakobsen.

The Danish pair were reasonable comfortable in the women’s doubles taking the title in 4 games over Martina Repiska and Camilla Martens. Andersen was forced to work much harder for her women’s singles win as she took on compatriot and one of the players of the season last year Sofie Holmboe Dahl.

The match went the distance and it was Andersen who held her nerve to take the fifth set 11-7 to claim her first 2016 circuit title and elevate herself to status as one to watch in the future for Denmark.

Kaisti and Nystrom were the form pair coming into their home tournament and on paper were favourites for the title. The Finns dominated their way to the title loosing just one single set to land their second titles in as many weeks.

Denmark went on to dominate finals proceedings winning 4 of the 5 titles on offer with Viktor Svendsen taking the men’s singles over home favourite Kalle Koljonen and in the final match of the day Jeppe Bay and Rasmus Kjaer took the men’s doubles title beating pre-tournament favourites Moren and Szkudlarcszk of Poland in the easiest of three straight sets.
