The pair were seeded three going into the event but form was surely the indicator and form said without doubt the Bulgarians were red hot to lift the title. They got off to an uncertain start taken all the way by Danish pair Noergaard & Vestergaard in the experimental best of 5 to 11 system.

Thereafter Mitsova and Nedelcheva put on the afterburners and cruised home to the title beating Boje & Sentow in the final in double quick time. 

Bruun back on track

Two international series titles early in the year suggest that Kim Bruun was another on his way to a big circuit year. After the wins in Iceland and Greece the Danes fortunes took an on-court downturn with first round exits in Belgium, Prague and his home Denmark Open last week. 

Yesterday Bruun got the train back on the track and took a welcomed challenge win beating fellow Dane and form player Viktor Svendsen in the final. For sure Bruun (pictured above) had benefited from the better half of the draw but his win over Svendsen in three straight games in the final suggests that no matter who was there this week Bruun’s name was on the trophy. 

That was as good as it got for Europe on finals day as Indonesia and Malaysia dominated the remaining three finals. Sofie Holmboe Dahl came up short in the women’s singles final against Rui Chen Yap but will welcome the return to form. 

Colberg and Fladberg didn’t manage to get themselves over the line in the men’s doubles but a world ranking inside the top 100 will serve to ease the pain once the points are totted up next Thursday. 

Polish mixed pair Pawel Pietryja & Aneta Wojtkowska will be the happier of the European runners up as they went one step further than their number three seeding suggested. The Poles lost out to top seeds Hee & Tan in the final and like the Danes men’s doubles will feel much better about their weeks work once the world ranking points are added up next week.
