The third Badminton Europe Confederation (BEC) Board of Directors and Commission Meetings of this year ended on Sunday, 11th September in Dubrovnik, Croatia. In this article, we will look back on the three days that have passed and reflect on the different meetings which took place.

All the participants attended the scheduled meetings with great enthusiasm and contributed with plenty of new ideas to the Commissions. Activities from the different Commissions were reported and an update of the future plans of each Commission were presented to the attendees of the meetings for discussion.

Multiple suggestions among the Commissions were also voiced out and discussions were made if these suggestions should be implemented or not. These final Board of Directors and Commission Meetings for 2016 were attended by 18 participants which includes 9 BEC Directors, 4 Commission Members, 3 BEC staffs and 2 translators.

The BEC Board of Directors in deep discussion in Dubrovnik

BEC President, Gregory Verpoorten on his stay in Dubrovnik and the meeting in general, ´We had a great few days in Dubrovnik. Not only did we enjoy this fantastic city when we were out for dinner, we were welcomed by our great host, Ratko Galjer (President of the Croatia Badminton Association) but our Board Members and Commission Members also contributed greatly to the development of badminton in Europe.  The foundation was laid for more and better events, an excellent high performance environment for European players and focused development initiatives that will benefit our Member Associations and the sport overall. Thanks to all who spent many hours in the meetings this weekend and thanks to our host from the Croatian Badminton Association´!

Restructuring of the Commission Chairs

At the 2016 Annual Delegates´ Meeting in Podčetrtek, Slovenia, BEC welcomed four new Board Members to the Confederation. The addition of the new Board Members means that BEC will have more expertise in the different areas. In conjunction to this addition, BEC has restructured the Chairs for several Commissions.

The main objective behind this process is for the Commission Chairs to be able to specialize on their forte and have a better spread among the Board of Directors. The updated Commission Chairs are as below:

• Circuits – Martin Kranitz
• Commercial – Gregory Verpoorten
• Fan Base – Kevin Scott
• High Performance – Richard Vaughan
• Major Events – Peter Tarcala
• Member Structures – Emma Mason
• Sport for All – Jean-Marc Serfaty
• Para-Badminton – João Matos
• Women in Badminton – Klavs Andreassen
• Athletes Commission – Nanna Vainio

BEC General Secretary, Brian Agerbak on the meeting last weekend, ´It was a fruitful weekend with many interesting discussions. The direction of the Confederation was reconfirmed with special focus in the coming period on the European Training Centre of Excellence, the image of our sport, star creation and continued efforts to grow badminton participation in Europe. These initiatives will be conveyed to the BEC staffs at our head office for implementation. I would like to thank all those who were present and we look forward to welcome all Board and Commission Members to our next meeting in 2017´.

The next BEC Board of Directors´ and Commission Meeting will be held in Copenhagen, Denmark (20-22 January 2017).
