World Champion Carolina Marin beat Malaysia's world number 33, Ying Yi Tee, 21-13, 22-20 in 44 minutes and reach the quarterfinals of the Malaysia Open Superseries (550.000 Dollars) in pursuit of a possible sixth career Superseries title.

In the last 8, Marin will face Wang Yihan of China, who defeated Ngan Yi Cheung 21-14, 21-13 to advance.

India Open runner-up Viktor Axelsen beat Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk, 21-15, 21-11, to stay on track for a potential semifinal against his compatriot Jan Ø. Jørgensen.

The latter outlasted Malaysia's Iskandar Zainuddin, 21-7, 21-16.  Jørgensen will now take on fourth seed and five time world champion Lin Dan, who overcame Thailands Boonsak Ponsana 21-15, 21-9, in the last eight on Thursday.

Jørgensen & Axelsen now up against Lin Dan and Lee Chong Wei

Also Viktor Axelsen will face a tough battle in tomorrow's last 8 where former world number one and home favourite Lee Chong Wei will wait.

„It was a comfortable win this evening against Tanongsak. I am now up against Lee Chong Wei tomorrow in the quarterfinals. It'll be a great experience for sure. I'm ready to give everything I got on court“, says Axelsen.

“Viktor has been playing well ... reaching the final of the Indian Open last week“, says Lee Chong Wei. “But I’ve never lost to him - in seven meetings.“

Conrad/Kolding beat All-England champions

All-England champions Ivan Sozonov and Vladimir Ivanov (Russia) were hustled out by Mads Conrad and Mads Kolding (Denmark) in two straight games 21-12, 21-8.

Sixth-seeded mixed duo Joachim Fischer and Christinna Pedersen of Denmark had a 21-17, 22-20 win over Korea's Yoo Yeon Seong/Chang Ye Na and will next play Ko Sung Hyun/Kim Ha Na.

Chris and Gabby Adcock, England’s world number six mixed doubles pair, booked their quarter-final place with a 26-24, 21-7 victory over Ronald Alexander and Melati Oktaviani, their second Indonesian opponents in as many days.

Having admitted that this last 16 encounter would be a tough match, the opening game proved as much, with the world number 22 Asian pair taking a 10-6 lead.

But the English duo clawed their way back and took the final two points. The second was far more clinical as the Adcocks opened up an 8-1 lead, which they doubled to 16-7 before securing their place in the last eight.

The Adcocks will now play their toughest Indonesian test yet in the shape of Tontowi Ahmad and Liliyana Natair, the second seeds, for a last four berth.

World number 21 Ouseph was afforded a day off on Thursday after receiving a walkover following Kento Momota of Japan’s withdrawal from the event.

The Japanese flew back from Malaysia after reports emerged in Tokyo of an alleged visit to an illegal casino with team-mates, which could hinder Momoto’s chances of making Rio 2016.

Rajiv Ouseph will play Jonatan Christie of Indonesia in the Malaysia Open quarterfinals on Friday, with England’s top singles player one match away from reaching his first ever Superseries semi-final.
