What a match! What a result! Former world junior champion Viktor Axelsen is looking increasingly untouchable at the Yonex Denmark Open so far after making the semi-finals on home soil.

The 21-year-old reached the last four at the Superseries Premier event (650.000 Dollars) in his city of birth, Odense, with a remarkable 21-8, 21-7 win over China’s superstar and five-time world champion Lin Dan.

This must be a hard-to-understand sentence for the many supporters of the Chinese legend: Lin Dan found world number seven Viktor Axelsen just too good in today's quarter-finals. The Denmark star, ranked four places below the double Olympic Champion, pushed Lin Dan all the way. The 32-year-old Chinese, who celebrated his birthday on Wednesday, simply had no answer to Axelsen’s great variety of shots throughout the whole match. Legendary tv commentator Gillian Clark even used the word "destroyed" to give a description of the 36-minute game.

Axelsen will play the top seed and current world champion Chen Long for place in Sunday's finals. But it is the Chinese who holds a 5-0 career lead over Axelsen who reached his maiden Yonex Denmark Open semi-final.

The Adcocks fall to Cheng/Yixin

England's Chris and Gabby Adcock, the sixth seeds, were denied a place in the semi-finals after a tight defeat in Odense on Friday afternoon. The world number six pair lost out 23-25, 18-21 to Liu Cheng and Bao Yixin of China.

Classy Carolina Marin safely through in straight games

The two-time world champion Carolina Marin took only 37 minutes to progress into the semi-finals of the Superseries Premier event as she beat Michelle Li of Canada 21-14, 21-11, and remains on course for her fourth Superseries title. She will play India's rising star P.V. Sindhu in tomorrow's semi-finals.

A lot of joy for the home fans in Odense

Earlier on Friday, Denmark's Joachim Fischer and Christinna Pedersen reached the semi-final by beating Shin Baek Cheol/Chae Yoo Jung of Korea 21-16, 21-19. Also their colleagues Mathias Boe/Carsten Mogensen are through to the semi-finals as Danish world number four pair beat Chai Bao/Hong Wei of China in two close games 23-21, 23-21. Next up for Boe/Mogensen is another Chinese duo, Liu Cheng/Lu Kai.

Tomorrow's semi-finals can be watched via live streaming on BWF's dedicated YouTube channel. Tune in at 12.00 CET by clicking here.
