The fourth BWF para-badminton international tournament of the year starts today, 5th August 2015 in Sritex Arena in Solo, Indonesia. The arena, previously known as GOR Bhinneka Arena was named Sritex Arena in April 2009 and will be the competition venue for 70 players in 16 events. The European participating countries are France, Poland, Switzerland and Turkey.

All eyes will be on Bartlomiej Mroz (POL) as he is seeded top in SU5 in the Men´s Doubles, partnering Ilker Tuzcu (TUR). Bartlomiej is seeded second in the Men´s Singles in the same Sport Class and will encounter a tough fight against top seeded, Cheah Liek Hou from Malaysia if both proceed to the finals. In the WH1+WH2 Women´s Singles, Emine Seckin (TUR) is seeded top while Swiss players, Karin Suter-Erath and Sonja Haesler are seeded third and fourth respectively. The Swiss ladies will then partner each other in the Doubles category of WH1+WH2 Doubles.

On the organization of the 2nd Indonesia Para-Badminton International, Andy Hines-Randle, the BWF Integrity and Para-Badminton Manager expressed his satisfaction, “It’s great to see Indonesia hosting a BWF Para-Badminton International for the second year. It shows Indonesia’s continued commitment to develop and promote para-badminton, especially with the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games being an important long term focus. Obviously the event in Solo last year made a big impression, with increased entries for this year’s event. A number of countries are returning to Solo to compete, with plenty of new faces travelling to experience the atmosphere that badminton in Indonesia is famous for. I feel it will be a very competitive event with a lot of good matches for all to watch and enjoy”.

The players taking part in Solo consists of 47 male and 23 female from six Asian countries and four European countries. Güenter Kluetze, Technical Delegate of the tournament on the players´ participation in Solo, “It is the first time that a second international tournament in one year is in Asia. We had the China Para-Badminton International earlier in May. So with that background the participation is fine. It is understandable that many South East Asian countries take part in this tournament so that the players can be classified internationally. Some of the players competing here have already made their spot for the 2015 BWF Para-Badminton World Championships in Stoke Mandeville, England in September”.

List of the European players competing in Solo:

Richard Perot (FRA)
Bartlomiej Mroz (POL)
Karin Suter-Erath, Sonja Haesler (SUI)
Muammer Cankaya, Sedat Tuemkaya, Zehra Baglar, Ilker Tuzcu, Avni Kertmen, Emine Seckin (TUR)
