Para-Badminton Stars Head to Dublin

Para-badminton fans are urged to turn out in huge numbers for the Carlton Irish Para-Badminton International in Dublin which starts today.

The event takes place over three days, from Friday to Sunday - with matches starting at 10am each day.  The finals and medal ceremonies will be on Sunday between 10am and 2pm.

No tickets required.  Just turn up and enjoy!

If you can´t make it to Dublin, don´t worry. You can still follow the tournament via tournamentsoftware with the tournament schedules and results.

More than 140 athletes from 24 nations will congregate in the capital for the inaugural Carlton Irish Para- Badminton International, which will is being held from 24 – 28 June in the Baldoyle Badminton Centre.

Players from Brazil, England, Finland, France, Germany, Ghana, Guatemala, Hong Kong, Hungary, India, Israel, Macau, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Russia, Scotland, Singapore, Spain, Surinam, Switzerland, Turkey and Wales are listed amongst the entries.

The entry was much higher than anticipated and the entire team have been working really hard to ensure everything is perfect. We look forward to welcoming players from all over the world and hope to give them an enjoyable experience here in Dublin.´ stated David McGill, the Events & Membership Manager of Badminton Ireland.

Ireland’s Niall McVeigh, the current European and World Champion, will lead the home team’s quest for a medal. The Newry athlete however, will face stiff competition – with 44 entries in his division in SS 6, for short stature players.

Other Irish contenders include Paralympic star Michael Smith, who finished fourth in the discus at the Paralympic Games in Sydney in 2000, and also Emma Farnham, Andrew Moorcroft, Chris Stewart and Laura Lee Jenkins.
