The Japanese players dominated the 50th edition of the Portuguese International (5.000 Dollars). They won three out of the five titles of the International Series tournament in Caldas da Rainha. Kazumasa Sakai justified his top seeding in the men’s singles category by beating the surprising runner-up Marius Myhre of Norway 21-13, 21-13 in Sunday's finals. Myhre played an excellent tournament as he beat some higher ranked players.

The women’s singles final was an all-Japanese affair, with the top seed Sayaka Takahashi (nº 15 in WR) beating Aya Ohori by 21-13/21-14. The men’s doubles final saw the unseeded English pair of Peter Briggs/Tom Wolfenden upset the top seeds Martin Campbell/Patrick Machugh (SCO) in two games, 21-17 22-20.

The women’s Doubles also had winners from Japan. The top seeds Ayane Kurihara and Naru Shinova beat the unseeded Germans Carola Bott and Jennifer Karnott 21-13, 21-16. In the mixed doubles event no seeded pair reached the final. Filip Myhren and Emma Wengberg of Sweden took the title after beating Marko Pyykonen (Finland) and Karoliine Hoim (Estonia), who both came from the qualification stage to reach the finals. The Swedish duo won 21-15, 21-18.
