Badminton Europe organized its 4th BEC/BWF Coach Level 1 Trainers’/Tutors’ course from 28-30 March 2014. It was hosted by Badminton Ireland who provided great facilities at the Marino Institute in Dublin. It was the first time that the participants could qualify as a Trainer. The reason for this is to bring the Coach Education closer to our Member Associations.

15 coaches came to Ireland to become Trainers or Tutors. Not everybody was new to the Coach Education system, as few of the participants took part on earlier BEC/BWF Coach Education courses. They came to make another step in their coaching carrier. BWF Coach Education Expert Joann Hughes, who has done many courses all over the world, directed the course. She was pleased with the high level of the participants.

The course started in the sport hall Friday morning. After a short introduction Jo didn’t hesitate to give tasks to the coaches. The first exercises were given for groups, which allowed the participants to get to know each other while working together. The group quickly became a team, creating a great atmosphere for the whole weekend, where both theory and the practical exercises were covered.

Participants were educated how to take the role of a Tutor, they learned how to assess a lesson and give feedback to the coaches. They also got familiar with planning and delivering coach education courses. Although the 3 days were very intense and participants received a lot of tasks, the exercises were always delivered in good spirit. A great course with a very enthusiastic team ended Sunday afternoon.

The results are going to be updated on the website shortly.

Badminton Europe is organizing its next Coach Education course during the Summer School in Vejen, Denmark from 19-26 July 2014.
