This morning, Mark Caljouw (Netherlands) played his first match against Kiran George (India) and won 21-11 21-5, making it to the final stage of the men's singles qualification, where he lost 22-20, 14-21, 17-21 against Indonesia’s Christian Adinata. 

Christo Popov faced Priyanshu Rajawat, from India, and lost 17-21 19-21. On another note, Victor Svendsen from Denmark won his opening round 12-21, 21-16, 21-19 against Tommy Sugiarto, from Indonesia. In the second round, Svendsen faced Popov’s previous opponent Rajawat and lost in three games.

But we also saw some European winners in the qualification. Ties Van Der Lecq and Debora Jille (Netherlands) won against the Chinese pair Cheng Xing/ Chen Fang Hui 21-19, 22-24, 21-18. From Denmark, Rasmus Kjær and Frederik Søgaard also won against Indonesia’s Muhammad Fadillah and Rahmat Hidayat 21-14 21-13 and will play again tomorrow in the main draw. 

Kristin Kuuba from Estonia did not even have to step on court as her opponent Sim Yu Jin (Korea) withdrew. In contrast, Beatriz Corrales from Spain lost her match, as Lauren Lam (USA) outscored her 21-19 21-16.  

Later in the afternoon, the main draw kicked off with the round of 32 in women's and men's doubles. From a European perspective there was not much to celebrate. Both Dutch pairs, Debora Jille/ Cheryl Seinen and Ruben Jille/ Ties Van Der Lecq, lost their openers. Kim Astrup/ Anders Rasmussen (Denmark) as well as Margot Lambert/ Anne Tran (France) also had to pack their bags after just one encounter. 

The only European pair reaching the Round of 16 today was the French men's double Lucas Corvee/ Ronan Labar. The world's number 38 pulled of a solid 21-19, 21-13 win against the Thai pair Charoenkitamorn/Yordphaisong and will be playing their second round at the HSBC BWF World Tour 500 event on Thursday.
