We are nearing the end of the year and the YONEX Slovenia Future Series was the penultimate stop before the Christmas break in the European Circuit. On the winning side, Indonesia and Japan got to secure some great results and our European talents also got to show their strength in Maribor last week.

The host country had two of their top players competing in the finals. While in the singles event Petra Polanc did not get past her first match in what was a three-game match that saw Dane Simona Pilgaard winning, the Slovenian player still had a lot to give with her mixed doubles partner, Miha Ivančič.

Polanc/ Ivančič secured wins in straight games right until the semifinals where they had a tough match against Jacob Hede Dahlgaard, Denmark, and Malena Norrman, Sweden, but the Slovenian pair won the match to advance on to the finals. 

In the fight for the gold, Polanc/ Ivančič had to face Serbia’s Mihajlo Tomic/ Andjela Vitman. The Serbian pair only needed two games to become the champions and this is yet another great win for them in what has been a successful year.

In their last three tournaments, Tomic/ Vitman have managed to reach the podium. In fact, the Serbian pair started the year in the 158th position in the world ranking and have escalated up to be on the 64th. The duo is one to watch in the European Circuit.
