On Monday evening the YONEX Canada Open 2022 started in Calgary. In addition to numerous Canadian players who want to use their home tournament to collect world ranking points, some Europeans will also be trying to make an impact on Canadian soil.

The biggest name in the tournament is definitely three-time world champion Carolina Marin from Spain. After suffering another horrible knee injury in 2021 that forced her to miss eleven months of competition, Marin is still on a comeback mission fighting her way back to the top of the world ranking. And the six-time-in-a-row European Champion is looking forward to making another step into the right direction in Canada:

“Canada Open, here we go! Ready to give my best this week”, she captioned an Instagram video showing her preparation on court.

Several French, Spanish, Danish and German players will be competing in Calgary this week. Most of them already played their first rounds yesterday. Misha Zilberman (No. 3 seed, MS) from Israel as well as Arnaud Merkle (No. 4 seed, MS) and Qi Xuefei (No. 5 seed, WS) from France all won their first matches in Canada.

The round of 16 kicks off today at 18:00 CET and can be streamed live on the YouTube channel of Badminton Canada. Draws and results online on our app, Badminton Live.
