Day three of the European U15 Championships in Ibiza, Spain, was packed with three thrilling rounds of badminton. After playing the remaining matches from the round of 16, the quarterfinals kicked off at 11:30 CET. Surprisingly, many of the top-seeded youngsters struggled in the quarterfinals. Kaja Ziolkowska (No. 1 seed, WS) from Poland, Vladyslav Kunin and Raiia Almalalha (No. 1 seed, XD) from Ukraine, and Linus Emmerich and Leon Kaschura (No. 2 seed, MD) from Germany could not fulfill their dreams of earning a medal. 

This dream came true for Tiago Berenguer from Portugal. The thirteen-year-old, No. 1 seed in men’s singles, beat Frederik Hinding from Denmark 21-12 21-18 in the quarterfinals and thus secured the first-ever medal at European Championships for his country. But Berenguer was not done yet. In the semifinals, he took out Nathan Nguyen from France in a three-game-thriller. After losing the first game 29-30 the Portuguese came back to win the match 21-9 21-15 and advance to the final. 

But Berenguer was not the only one to achieve the first medal for his country at European Championships. Daria-Irina Gherasim and Cristina Maria Sirbu from Romania also made history rallying to the final without losing a single set. They beat Lily Gautier and Monitosita Touch from France in the semi-finals 21-19 21-17. Tomorrow they will face Elifnur Demir and Zeynep Berre Ocakoglu from Turkey in the final. 

In mixed doubles and men’s doubles the Danish youngsters were dominating the competition in Ibiza. Tomorrow’s finals will feel like a national championship when Mikkel Eilersen Bouet and Eline Landsvig will face Jens Andersson and Athene Lyduch Thornild in mixed doubles and Jens Andersson and Aske Rømer Roslyng will play against Mikkel Eilersen Bouet and Frederik Hinding (all Denmark) in men’s doubles. 

Finals day will start with Leana Laurent from France facing Aleyna Korkut from Turkey in women's singles at 9:00 CET.
