Will the Spanish badminton queen be back on time for the World Championships or will her fears of not being fully recovered stop her from playing this year’s last big event?

Carolina Marin gave an interview to Spain’s national television broadcaster RTVE in the leadup to the TotalEnergies BWF World Championships that will be taking place in her hometown, Huelva. The three-time champion expressed her concerns about returning to court without being fully recovered.

A huge question mark
Marin has cast doubts on whether she will be taking part in the World Championships to be hosted in Huelva, her hometown, from 12 to 19 December. After knee surgery, the Rio 2016 Olympic champion and three-time world champion worries about returning to the tournament without being fully recovered.

- It is a dream come true. It seemed like something that was far away, but I so look forward to being there and I hope that people enjoy it, Marin said.

The player also spoke about the big event’s mascot. The designer of the Bengal tigress stated that she was inspired by Marin’s courage, and the current world number five stated that it is her pride to transmit those values.

Step by step
Marin is obviously aware of the huge following that badminton has in Asia and what this will mean for Huelva.

- Millions of people will watch it, and it will put my home in the spotlight, Marin stated.

She commented on the chances of her return to the court after her second big knee injury that she suffered just before the Tokyo Olympic Games. Marin confirmed that she is still unsure about whether she will be able to be back in time for the World Championships.

- I am happy with my recovery. I have been recovering for five months and we go step by step. There are not that many days left now, and if I am not on court, I will be there on the side. The most important thing is my health and the day that I am back, I want to be ready to win the tournament, Marin concluded.
