The 2020 Uber Cup final will be a rematch of the 2014 final.

On Saturday night, China and Japan will be playing their second Uber Cup final against each other.

China was the first team to qualify for the Uber Cup 2020 finals beating Thailand 3-0 in the semifinals.

Clean sweep
The 2013 women’s singles World champion, Ratchanok Intanon, was part of the line-up for the first time at Uber Cup 2020, but the 26-year-old was clearly not fit to play. After just two minutes on court Intanon withdrew, and Chen Yu Fei thereby clinched the first point for China.

Chen Qing Chen and Jia Ya Fan doubled the lead for China winning the first women’s doubles, before the 2018 Nanjing World Championships medallist, He Bing Jiao, secured the spot in the final winning against Pornpawee Chochuwong.

Japan bounced back
Japan will be defending their 2018 title in the final on Saturday. In the second semifinal, Korea took the lead with the 19-year-old talent, An Seyoung dominated against Akane Yamaguchi winning in straight games, before the Japanese team took three straight wins.

After 78 minutes of play, Yuki Fukushima/Mayu Matsumoto beat Lee Sohee/Shin Seungchan in three games, before Sayaka Takahashi overpowered Kim Gaeun in the second women’s singles of the tie.

2016 Olympic champion, Misaki Matsumoto and partner Nami Matsuyama became match winners for Japan winning the final match of the tie. The Japanese duo beat Kim Soyeong/Kong Heeyong in straight games.

A new chapter to the history book
Last time the two teams met at the Uber Cup final (2014) China won 3-1 against Japan.

Three players from the 2020 edition of the Uber Cup were part of the line up seven years ago: Misaki Matsutomo, Sayaka Takahashi and Akane Yamaguchi, who did not play in the 2014 final.
