Spain won the all-European match up against Scotland on the last day of the group stage.

The last all-European Uber Cup tie took place on Wednesday afternoon, when Spain and Scotland met on the court in Aarhus, Denmark.

Both teams lost to India and Thailand in the group stage meaning that the knockout stage was not a topic for either of the team, but as Kirsty Gilmour previously stated: “it is always nice to finish on a ‘high’”.

1-1
Kirsty Gilmour gave Scotland the perfect start beating Clara Azurmendi, before Spanish bounced back. Beatriz Corrales won in three games against Scottish youngster Rachel Sugden.

- I tried to go in with intensity, speed and play fearlessly. I tried to play a fast game but not a flat game, and I think I did that almost perfectly today, Kirsty Gilmour said.

- It was not one of my best matches. I did not feel good with the shuttle or with the quality of the shots. I had to many things going on in my head, but I managed to say: “Okay. I am not feeling well, but I continue to fight”, Beatriz Corrales stated after the match.

Spanish lead
Young Lucia Rodriguez claimed the second point for Spain winning in straight games against Lauren Middleton, before Julie Macpherson and Ciara Torrance beat the newly established duo, Clara Azurmendi/Beatriz Corrales.

Two young pairs, Rodriguez/Setien (Spain) and Andrew/O’Donnell both had eyes on the prize in the final women’s doubles. The Spanish teenagers became match winners for Spain winning the final match of the tie in straight games
