Defending European Games winner and European Championships bronze medallist Mia Blichfeldt will unfortunately not have the opportunity to compete for a spot on the podium at the European Championships next week.

The jumper's knee, which she has struggled with several times before, is causing her problems again which will prevent her from participating in Ukraine.

Blichfeldt, who was second-seeded at the Championships and thus predicted silver, has been sidelined due to an injury to her knee, which has previously caused her problems.

-I am of course really sorry that my jumper’s knee has come back right before the European Championships because I think I have had a good period lately. I was really looking forward to playing after a good break since All England, but I have learnt from previous injuries that I do not want to compromise my health because it has to last a long time, and also for many other tournaments and championships, Mia Blichfeldt says.

Instead of going with the other Danish players to Kyiv on Friday, the young women's single player will place her focus and efforts towards being injury-free again, so that she can hopefully get rid of the knee problems before the Spain Masters in mid-May.

At the most recent European Championships in 2018, Mia Blichfeldt won bronze, and in 2019 she took the gold at the European Games.

-The European Championships are for us and for the players one of the most important Championships, which is a high priority in the calendar. But of course, not higher than our athletes and their health. Mia has been doing really well lately and was one of the players in who we have big hopes, so of course I'm really sorry on her behalf. Nevertheless, I am also confident that she will probably come back even stronger, as she has done so many times before, Jens Meibom says.

The 2021 European Championships begin on Tuesday and will be played in Kyiv, Ukraine. The Championships are the 28th of its kind, and several of the Danish players are seeded for medals, especially in the men's singles category, which has Danes seeded in the first, second, third and fourth positions.
