Coach (Singles) for the Dutch National Badminton Team


Primary job purpose

The main task of the Coach Singles is to work together with National Team Coach Pool on the National training centre Papendal to provide training and coaching of Dutch national top level singles players, and to coach these players at tournaments in Europe and around the World, as well as contributes to the further development and support of the top sport policy and top sport program.


Most important task responsibilities


The National Coach singles is responsible for:

  • training and coaching of the national top level players at the national centre as part of our National Coaching Pool at Papendal in Arnhem, on a daily basis
  • making the daily training planning for the national team, together with the other coaches
  • producing programs that enable Dutch players to progressively develop their potential
  • evaluating progress of all national team players, on result goals as well as on development goals
  • making contributions to the top level technical policy of the association 
  • making proposals for selection of players for events
  • coaching players during events
  • managing the participation of players in events, including administration
  • providing injuries prevention policy
  • reporting to the Technical Director
  • participating in weekly meetings, together with the Coach Pool and junior national team coaches and in other meetings
  • contributing to the development of Badminton Nederland junior talent coaches
  • developing and preparing players towards winning medals at European and World Championships.
  • contribution as required to training other groups including Regional Training Centers, Talent Team and Para badminton.
  • contribution as required to other activities and tasks within Badminton Nederland.


Essential Requirements

  • The requirement for National Coach are that he/she
  • preferably WO work and thinking level and BWF level 1, 2 & 3 * of the European Qualification Structure or a comparable (foreign) trainer course
  • has displayed knowledge and expertise of load management, training and coaching of World Class Singles players at Olympic level
  • has experience in working with World Class Doubles players
  • has knowledge of and experience with the international top level badminton scene
  • is prepared to work on irregular basis
  • is prepared to do other work in the association and share his/her knowledge into the Dutch badminton system
  • is prepared to contribute to the development of the other coaches in the Dutch coaching system
  • has demonstrable experience in developing effective working relationships between a variety of experts and organisations
  • cultivates open trusting relationships, encourages and supports team working by encouraging others to freely express their ideas, opinions and/or feelings
  • exhibits leadership skills not only in his/her area of technical expertise but also in the management of the group working environment with athletes and other coaches, administrators and supporting staff.
  • exhibits a clear understanding of motivational behaviour that is a positive reinforcement for athletes within their programme.
  • exhibits a clear understanding of annual planning and periodisation cycles in the sport of badminton.
  • demands high and challenging standards of development and results.
  • develop S-1 players so that they move on to the Senior squad
  • inspires and supports the team through involvement and encouragement
  • creates a strong sense of team identity.


Working conditions

The job is full time. Salary will be set according to qualifications and the CAO Sport (Collective Labour Agreement for the Sports Sector).
