The number one seeds in the men’s event, Denmark, took to the court this afternoon against Latvia. Former world champion Viktor Axelsen lead the way with a 21-6, 21-9 victory over Andis Berzins in just 18 minutes. The tie ended 5-0, after less than an hour and half of play. After the match, Axelsen talks about how he is approaching the group stages here in France.
-The first few days here we pretty much have to win our matches. You use it as training as good as you can, to make sure you get a lot of steps in on court. But I was happy with the win today.
Axelsen took the national championships title last weekend and comes into the EMWTC with a lot of confidence. Commenting on his form at the moment in between tournaments, Axelsen says.
-My practice has been good for some time now. So definitely I feel optimistic about the whole thing here. It is always fun to compete with the Danish team. I have had some really good experiences in team events during my career already. Of course, the 2016 Thomas Cup has been the biggest and most special experience for me. So, I am always enjoying it and we have lots of fun together.
