Are you ready for badminton at the European Games? The competition at the multi-sports event will be getting underway from 24-30 June in Minsk, Belarus. 

Bright Year, Bright You! – that is the motto of the European Games 2019. The second edition of the multi-sport event in Europe will be hosting around 4000 athletes from 50 nations. Next to badminton, 14 other sports competitions will get underway. 

Officially, the Games kick off at the 21st of June. From the 24th of June moving forward, the badminton competition will be taking place in the Falcon Club.

The Games are the most important tournament for European badminton in 2019. It is hosted instead of the European Championships, which will not be organised this year. 

On the road to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, Europe’s top players can also collect valuable world ranking points. 

- By participating in the European Games, players can gain performance experience to prepare for Tokyo. They are not just competing for a couple of days but for two weeks, Jimmy Andersen, Senior Manager at Badminton Europe and technical delegate at the European Games, said.

- In 2015, I spoke with players in Baku. They said that it is a valuable experience for them to be at a multi-sports event. It is also a valuable regarding the training sessions.

Looking towards the kick-off of the badminton competition at the European Games, several European players have revealed their previous experiences as well as expectations and ambitions for the upcoming tournament.

Building up towards the first day of badminton in Minsk, there is a European Games Exclusive series, portraying players from all over Europe. The series is published on Badminton Europe’s website, as well as in the ‘Badminton Live’ app.
