In the second quarterfinal duel within seven days, Axelsen was successful in seeking revenge against Jonatan Christie. He beat the Indonesian in very close three games in Singapore on Friday.

After losing to Jonatan Christie in the quarterfinals of the Malaysia Open exactly one week ago, there was no déja vu getting underway for Axelsen in the quarterfinal of the Singapore Open.

Indeed, the Dane has reached the semi-final of the Super 500 tournament, after beating Christie in three tough games (22-24, 21-18, 24-22). The match lasted thrilling 80 minutes in total.

A shuttle for the fans

Viktor Axelsen was obviously released after his victory. He was showing a short winner dance on court and was cheering with the crowd. He even threw the shuttle, with which he was executing the decisive match point, in the crowd.

- What a game against Jonatan Christie tonight. Happy to be on the winning side. Could have gone both ways! Thanks once again for a great game Jonatan. I am already looking forward to the next one, Axelsen stated on Instagram after the match.

- Time to relax and get ready for tomorrow, he added.

The first semi-final matches of the Singapore Open 2019 will be getting underway at 1.00 PM (local time) on Saturday. Axelsen will be facing another strong opponent from Asia, when he is playing against the current number one in the world, Kento Momota.

The statics are not in favour of Axelsen: he lost 11 out of the last 12 matches against the Japanese. The latest match took place at the All England - Axelsen lost to Momota in three games.
