Last week in Hong Kong, Danish pair Mathias Boe and Carsten Mogensen showed the world they are nearly back at their best when going the distance with the formidable number one pair, Kevin Sukamuljo and Marcus Gideon. Displaying high level badminton in the first two games, until the match fell away from them in the third.
The match ended in a peculiar final rally, with Mogensen exchanging a series of clears with his opponents, then changing to his opposite hand (left), and promptly mishitting the shot wide before shaking hands at the net. But his partner Boe can see the funny side, stating on Instagram
-Think Carsten needs to practice his left hand game, epic match point.
In their first round match of the Syed Modi International Championships tomorrow, the number 5 seeds face Indian pair Bhaskar Chakraborty and Prince Chaturvedi, on a path to a potential quarter-final with the number 5 seeds, Hiroyuki Endo and Yuta Watanabe or the returning Lee Yong Dae and Kim Gi Jung.
Arrived in Lucknow
Another Danish pair hoping to end their year on a high on the World Tour stage, are number one seeds Kim Astrup and Anders Rasmussen. Especially after a good quarter-finals run in Hong Kong. Kim Astrup updated his fans on Instagram by announcing
-Arrived in Lucknow after a very long and tough travel. Last World Tour Tournament this year for Anders and I.
Their first round match is against the young Chinese pair of Ou Xuanyi and Ren Xiangyu, whom they beat comfortably in 2 games just last week. If all goes to plan, a likely quarterfinal match will be against Indian favourites and 8th seeds, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty.
