Hans-Kristian Solberg Vittinghus has knocked out Mark Caljouw in the first round of the YONEX French Open in Men’s Singles on Tuesday.

Danish player, Vittinghus, and Dutch player, Caljouw, had one thing in common before playing against each other in Paris on Day 1 of the YONEX French Open: Both players have lost the first round of the DANISA Denmark Open last week in Odense.

On Tuesday, Vittinghus was able to reach the round of 16 at the BWF-Super-750 tournament in France. The Dane won against his Dutch opponent with 21-7, 17-21 and 21-14.

- I knew that I would fight against Mark for one hour or more. He is a tough competitor. Losing the second game, did not really influence my confidence, Vittinghus said after the match.

The second Dutch-Danish meeting

The match in the round of 32 of the YONEX French Open was the first match between Vittinghus and Caljouw at an international level.

One month ago, both played already against each other in the Danish League, where Vittinghus won the third game with 21-19.

- I guess I won the first game because Mark was a bit surprised how I played against him today, compared to last month, the Dane said.

- In general, I want to improve my game.  I did not play that good for the last six months, but today was a step in the right direction.
