For the first time, Denmark is hosting the Para-Badminton International this year. Players from all over the world are competing in Odense from 17-21 October 2018.

The upcoming week is all about badminton, with the Denmark Open coming up. Along to the 750-series tournament, the Denmark Para-Badminton International are going to take place. The event is organised by Badminton Denmark, a member association of Badminton Europe.

Brian Moesgaard, director of events at Badminton Denmark, is happy about hosting this new event in Denmark:

- We expect this event to be as cool as the other events in the Denmark Open family. We already run the Junior and the Senior event alongside the Denmark Open each year.

- To make this an event for all within our motto ‘Badminton for all’, we are excited to be able to add a Para-Badminton and a Special Olympic badminton tournament to the Denmark Open family of events this year.

Nearly 100 participants
The Marienlyst Hallerne in Odense will be the place to be for around 90 para-players this week, with the finals coming up on Sunday.

As usual, all players are competing in six sport classes: in Wheelchair Classes (WH1 and WH2), Standing Classes (SL3, SL4 and SU5), as well as Short Stature (SS 6).

Thereby, Rickard Nilsson from Sweden who is ranked 9th in the world SL4, and the German player, Tim Haller, who is ranked 18th in this class will be participating. Another European favourite is Martin Andrew from England: He is 17th world ranked in SS6.

“A great milestone”
Tania Teoh, Development Manager at Badminton Europe, expects a nice tournament for all participants:

- It is a great milestone for Badminton Denmark to host this event for the first time, alongside the DANISA Denmark Open. I am sure the players will have an amazing tournament in Odense.

- Having the Victor Denmark Para-Badminton International included in the BWF tournament calendar means that we now have one more international tournament held in Europe, on top of Ireland, Spain, Turkey and France this year.
